Welcome to the Juniors section of the Keswick Triathlon Club web page. It's really important to encourage children and young people to take part in sports and at KTC we really want our younger ones to enjoy triathlons but also benefit from well guided and safe training. This is why we put lots of effort into the junior part of the club.
At KTC we have many trained, friendly and supportive coaches that lead different sessions to help develop skills in the three different areas of triathlon. Our coaches are all local club members who we have supported through sponsorship to become certified triathlon coaches. This means that the juniors at KTC will learn skills to thrive and enjoy the sport.

We encourage all the juniors to take part in races and put on events over the year. We follow national guidelines and distances listed below.
We really value the support and help of parents in our club. We run four competitive events a year at the moment for adults and juniors which introduces juniors to racing on safe and local courses. We encourage parents to help not only with cheering the competitors but with Marshalling. We are a small club ran entirely by volunteers so events can only continue with the help of parents.
Our weekly training session for juniors is on Tuesday nights 6 to 7pm. This is on during term time and different coaches lead the sessions.
During winter the sessions are held at Keswick Leisure Pool and focus on swimming, core and flexibility. There is a £1 charge to cover the hire of the pool. The pool has lifeguard cover so the sessions are safe as well as enjoyable.
During the summer months training sessions move to Theatre by the Lake carpark at the edge of Derwentwater. As we are lucky enough to have open water nearby we train juniors in open water swimming. We split the children into groups and different coaches lead swim, bike and run sessions to safely train the kids in each discipline. We ask parents to remain for the training session as this increases safety and ability to monitor all children.
We have kit that we can lend to children. Wetsuits can be hired for the season. We have safety chillswim floats that all open water swimmers must wear. These are not flotation devices, just a float to attract attention to other open water users that the swimmers are there.
As part of our commitment to supporting children in sports and in line with national requirements we have a designated welfare officer at the club. This is Matt and his contact details can be requested via firstname.lastname@example.org. His role is to be available for children and parents to discuss any welfare issues. If there are any queries or concerns he will offer a supportive ear. Matt has received training for the role to manage welfare issues. He is DBS checked and is a parent and member of the club.
